The Key West Art & Historical Society is excited to partner with the BottleCap Lounge for a series of fun historical lectures entitled ‘Happy Hour with the Historian'.  Attendees will receive a free drink (beer, house wine or a well drink), and will be treated to a short presentation by the curator. Historian: Cori Convertito Ph.D. Topic: The History of the Navy in Key West The symbiotic relationship between the U.S. Navy and Key West extends as far back as the 1820s.  For nearly two centuries, the two have journeyed through periods of menacing pirates, Civil War blockades, Cuban immigrants, two World Wars, the Great Depression and the coming of naval aviation. This talk provides a rare opportunity for attendees to recognize and appreciate the interlaced connection between each entity; Key West would not exist as it does today without the Navy, and the Navy would not exist as it does today without Key West. More than just a chronological interpretation of the relationship, the talk promises to explore several facets including the economic impact on Key West, marine paintings and ephemera, the geographic importance of Key West and the Florida Straits, personal stories from naval service personnel and artifacts belonging to the naval service in Key West.
